The Northern Crusades were more than quests for personal salvation — they were centuries-long campaigns for control of vital Baltic trade routes. Led by powerful military orders, with Papal backing, these wars sought to expand Latin Catholic dominion over pagan regions and buttress against the rising influence of Eastern Orthodoxy.

On this immersive 5-day journey, you will:

• Begin in Riga, birthplace of the Livonian Brothers of the Sword (founded 1202).

• Explore medieval castles, meet traditional swordsmiths and boat builders in the Latvian countryside — once Livonian strongholds.

• Try your hand at beekeeping and archery in rural Lithuania and visit Trakai’s reconstructed island castle and Vilnius’s historic old town.

• Cross into Poland for horse riding and a tour of the mighty Malbork Castle, the largest castle in the world.

• Witness the epic Battle of Grunwald Re-enactment — Europe’s largest medieval festival — where over 50,000 swords clash in the recreation of the decisive 1410 Lithuanian–Polish victory over the Teutonic Order.
